Day 279 Sunday 14/1/17
Wind SW 15-20 Sea 2m
Had an early morning walk and got coffee and some caramel slice from the local bakery.
Left the wharf just after 6:00 and cleared the entrance by 7:15. Plenty of dolphins surfing the boats wake as we headed up the coast to Lady Baron on Flinders Is using one engine as there was no wind today.
Wind picked up to 25 knots and had a great sail across to Cape Barron Island. Thought we would have a nice easy sail to Flinders but the wind picked up to 45 knots (bloody forecasters are having trouble in Tas) and I had to pick my way through the channel. The port engine developed a water pump problem and I had to fix it on route.
Ended up arriving at Lady Baron Harbour at 19:00 and anchored in opossum boat Harbour.
Had some nice slow cooked ribs for dinner.
Day 280 Monday 15/1/17
Wind SW 15-20 Sea 2m
Slept in to nearly 8:00 and 2 of the Yachts nearby were moving out for their passage to Tasmania. We went over to bid "China Girl" farewell and were invited onboard for a cuppa by David Bradbury and Corina. They are the owners of Blue Water Cruisers in Lake Macquarie and have built over 20 boats including China Girl.
Went ashore for a look and to get a few groceries. Asked at the supermarket whether there was any hire cars available and they said only in Whitemark and they will deliver them with 24 hrs notice. As we were walking back to the boat a duel cab ute pulled up and asked if we needed a hire car. A couple (Marianne and Mick Rose) who owned one of the hire car companies on the island had heard from the supermarket that we were after a car so they gave us a lift back to Whitemark and we hired out an old Suburu Forester.
Went into Whitemark for a cuppa and a look around. Drove up to Walkers Lookout and then up North to Kilcrankie where we picked up one of the "diamonds" for John Fraser Easton, and then onto Palana at the far northern tip.
Had to buy Owen a little Flinders Island T shirt on the way back to the boat via Trouser Point.
Had dinner at the local Furneaux Tavern. Watch some more War and Peace before retiring.
Day 281 Tuesday 16/1/17
Wind NW 15-20 Sea 1m
Stayed at Lady Baron for the day.
Installed a fly screen on the main door as there were plenty of annoying flys about.
Found the leak under the lounge. A tiny hole in the accumulator which I fixed with some epoxy.
Pulled the toilet apart and found a snap washer had fallen off one of the valves which I quickly fixed.
Had a beer or two at the tavern and talked to some of the locals about Pot Boil bar.
Watched 2 episodes of War and Peace and cooked salmon for dinner.
