Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta/Paradise Village/ PV (in either case)

We left Mazatlan about noon on the 28th of January, we knew it would be about an 14 hour trip to Isla Isabella a nature preserve the we wanted to visit on our way to PV. We wanted to make sure we arrived in the daylight as anchoring at best can be treacherous! When we arrived at the island, we could see several other boats anchored and with the seas and wind conditions (overcast, huge seas, and no wind) we thought it might be best that we move on to San Blas a bay about 60 miles away. Since there was no wind we fired up our motor so that we'd reach San Blas by that afternoon (ANCHORING AT NIGHT IS NO FUN).
I'd gone down to get a little rest and left the watch to Mary, everything going smoothly, I was snoring away, WHEN, I heard the engine stop (you notice changes like that). Mary said she heard a thump and the RMP on then engine dropped to zero, she shut the engine down (great to have a first mate that knows what to do! As it turns out our engine did have a major problem, the crank shaft pulley housing had cracked and finally gave out. This pulley drives the alternator, engine driven refrigeration, and most importantly the engine water cooling pump. In short, we couldn't run our engine, WE ARE A SAILBOAT. After an hour or so of "what ifs" we decided about the only thing we could do was to sail into PV.
I fired of a SAILMAIL (not really internet it's over our radio) to the PV Marina where we had a reservation on the 15 and asked if they wouldn't mine if we were a couple of weeks early. Thank You, Marina Paradise Village for letting us come in early, in fact they sent out a panga (20' fiberglass Mexican workhorse boat) to assist us to our slip in the marina. They also arranged for a mechanic, Kim McDonald, to meet us at the dock to help us figure out how much of hole we were going to be in and to get our repair process going ASAP.
Kim did a great job working with us to diagnose the problem, help us get our engine out and determining what parts we'd need to get everything going again. The good thing is that I was scheduled to leave on the 8th for San Diego to drive the J-24 Tundra Rose (I've raced with this crew for 20 years on various boats and 15 on TR) down to PV for the J-24 Mexican Nationals and the World Championships, March 1st - 10th. I was able to pick up all of the parts and bring them in along with TR saving the hassle of having an import agent handle the transaction and the time involved, which can be weeks (Mexico has not heard of "overnight" shipping.
As we stand today, Feb. 26th, the TR crew has sailed the Mexican Nationals, we placed fifth of 47 (top Mexican boat was 9th) which we were happy with as it was just a practice for us. Our engine is awaiting parts that needed to be "overnighted", that have been in TEPIC for three days. The J-24 Worlds start with measurement on Thursday the 1st, with racing starting on the 5th. This is a whole another posting as for them it is such a big deal, not only is the governor(s) coming but the president of Mexico will be here some time during the week (probably the night of the beach volleyball tournament - kidding).
