Day 49 - Vero Beach, FL - MM 952

15 December 2013 | Vero Beach City Marina
Sunny with temps in 70's
Departed Melbourne at 8:23A; arrived Vero Beach 12:35pm. Nice short hop today covering about 30 nautical miles. Vero Beach is as beautiful as the books describe. The marina is surrounded by a park-like setting. The city of Vero offers FREE public bus transit (My brother Tim - take note!) and there is a stop right inside the marina. Can't get any more convenient than that. We visited downtown and, of course, checked out the local West Marine. (Did I mention we should have bought stock in this place? Yes, of course I did. Excuse my memory lapse.) Bob is searching for a Volvo engine filter but once again no luck. I, on the other hand, found what I needed at the T.J. Maxx across the street and at the Vero Beach Bookstore so one of us was a happy camper.

We enjoyed a quiet dinner topside aboard 4mySanity and I think the folks on the megayacht (see gallery pics for a view of our slip) were jealous. As a matter of fact I'm sure of it! A nearby heron flew onto the piling next to our boat and for several hours or so, well into the dark - save for a couple of marina dock lights- flew back and forth between the piling and the stern of a catamaran on the dock across from us. Every so often the heron squawked that crazy deep, angry-sounding pitch to get our attention. It stands so still that if you didn't know it was there in the dark you could pass right by and miss the heron altogether.

We enjoyed a warm, beautiful evening sitting in the stern of 4mySanity. Plenty of time to ponder and think about things. What a simple joy it is to have time to just ponder.
