Nomad entered the 2007 BHIR Race with a crew of four.
Yours truly, Danielle, Bill Byford, and Konstantin (as usual)
We had a start time of 10:20.
The start of the race demanded a tricky upwind passage through the narrows. One can imagine the meyhem of all these boats tacking upwind on a channel that is about 500 feet wide.
We managed to get through the narrows with a 2 tacks and headed up the south channel towards Hypocrite Channel.
We passed several vessels, and eventually caught up on Ruby as we were going across the Hypocrite Channel.
In the meantime Nansea K caught up un both of us. For a while all thrree of us were sailing in tandem, but after about 10 minutes, Nansea K just took off.
The downwind run was a slow one. So slow in fact that for a while we were together with a Frers and another race boat.
After that, we were pretty much alone for the rest of the race. A very fast Pearson Wanderer past us at one time.
The wind shifted in the last 20 minutes of the race. all the boats that went around the last mark did not have to do an additional tack, as we had to.
Nonetheless, we finished 7th in our class and 26th overall. Not bad for a houseboat :)
