Key West Redux
01 February 2014 | Stock Island Marina Village
Ivy, warm and humid
I am bringing you warmer weather cyberly. We have had a couple of northers where the wind goes to the north and we get temps in the 50-60's and some rain occurs. I know this isn't anything compared to the single digits or minus but it is cool for Key West.
We were able to get two bikes, one on loan from a friend and the other bought and will be rebought for half when we leave. They give us a nice mobility, down to Old Town Key West or just around the corner for pizza or Hogfish, our favorite. We can also do small grocery runs too or the post office which I always seem to need.
We have worked on the boat, I compounded all the gelcoat on the deck and used Never Dull on every rust spot I could find.
My sister, Bonnie and her friend Brian came to Key West on a vacation and we took a house tour together. The houses were big and small and all had been renovated. We couldn't take pictures of the interiors but I got a few of the exteriors. We rode the Conch Train which is always fun.
Key West Race Week came with the marina hosting most of the J 80s and it was fun to watch them go out each day. They are a light, 26' boat and only use a jib(front sail), main and an asymmetrical spinnakers(off a bow sprit which comes out of the bow).
The marina then hosted a king mackerel tournament with 60 big and small fishing boats, some had 3 350hp outboards on them, they can go 60mph. Wonderful fish came in and the winner weighed 70#, not the record but big.
Last night we went downtown to see Paul Cotton, who played with Poco and Buffalo Springfield back in the day. He was very gracious when we shook his hand and mentioned Bam and Joe in NJ.
Always something to do, I've started watercolor classes...see what retirement will do.
Thinking of all of you with every weather warning, I actually feel like I'm missing something. I do love snow, after all.
