How quick the summer passes......

Ivy, hot for Maine
Hi Everyone,
I hope your summer has been good so far and you will enjoy the rest.
We have been enjoying the pleasures of Maine, cooler weather, seals, boats aplenty and new and old friends.
Abner E needed some work done so we are attending to that.
The highlight of our summer was the Cape Dory Cruise. All Cape Dorys are invited for a week long sailing trip and this year's was terrific. Aside: Abner E is a Robinhood but only because she was built in Maine, she has a Cape Dory hull and fi
tted out by the build crew from Cape Dory in Taunton, MA.
Eight boats from 28' to 36' met at Long Cove at the eastern end of Penobscot Bay and traveled to Winter Harbor on Vinalhaven where we had a cocktail party on the rocks.
The folks who came included a climatologist, a marine biologist, a chemistry professor, a nurse, a social worker and several retired people. A nice mix that kept conversation flowing and interesting.
The Sweet Chariot music festival was in Swan's Island and was a special treat. Fiddles, banjos, sea chantys and some edgier stuff from NYC kept us greatly entertained in the Oddfellow's Hall. The walk back to the harbor was starfilled where the milky way was the prominent sky item. Beautiful!!
From Swan's Island we went to a little, read 30 people in winter community called Frenchboro just south of Mt. Desert Island. We had lobster dinners complete with corn and slaw for $12.50. What a bargain and tasty besides.
When we left Frenchboro our next and final stop was at the north end of the Eggemoggin Reach and we were lucky and had a beam reach for most of it. It is such a pleasure to sail when the wind cooperates.
We landed in Buck's Harbor where an outdoor shower awaited us and a final yummy meal at a white tablecloth place. It was a memorable week.
Along the way we were in harbor with several of the many schooners who travel the Maine coast. You will see some of them from large to small in the pictures I took. They are so graceful and beautiful with all their sails up.
More narrative with the pictures....
best to you all,
Ivy
