Beachcombing along the rocky northern beaches brought my luckiest shell find ever - a beautiful Emperor’s Helmet that had recently been dinner for a hungry octopus. It was all clean and hadn’t been beaten up. What a lucky find. It’s perfect!

Compass Cay is where we spent the most harrowing night while the boat sailed circles on the anchor in the wily currents and the wind roared through the anchorage. We moved the boat into a more protected spot and as the wind settled it was like sitting in a swimming pool of the clearest water over the whitest sand! Such a contrast. We enjoyed walking through a shallow cut to what is known as “The Bubble Bath” where we swam as the waters of the Atlantic crash over the rocks and create a frothy, bubbly effect - but just for a moment. Someone has a good imagination!

And then as we rounded the final bend we were in awe. The beach, colors and dried out sandy shoals were truly spectacular and once again, we were the only people on it!

We also took the dinghy up to the North end of the island and through a shallow cut to the Atlantic. The colors of the water was so spectacular. Around every bend came yet another “Wow, this is beautiful!”

We thought we’d try and stop at different Cays on our 2nd trip through the Exumas. Bill had managed to get the water-maker running which was a major boost to morale. So we motor-sailed again in lumpy seas on the nose from West Bay to Shroud Cay. Jim decided he was going to give kayaking a go! We ventured up the mangrove cut and enjoyed the scenery. We crossed to Pigeon Cay and had a good work-out before lunch. The kayaks are really stable and lots of fun for adventuring up quiet creeks and even crossing the chop against the current.
