Morning Walk

03 April 2014 | Black Point
Ray at Farmer's Cay
Back at anchor and looking for distraction, I suggested a morning walk on one of my favourite beaches. It is on the ocean side of Great Guana Cay, the island right across from Little Farmer's Cay. We dinghied over to the far side of Oven Rock at the South end of the island and landed the dinghy. The 'stroll' took us over a path of rock that resembles a moonscape of ankle devouring potholes and skin piercing protrusions with nary a warning sign nor hand rail in sight. The reasonable assumption is if you were to go here you would do so at your own risk. What a concept! Besides if you were to hurt yourself, who would you sue anyway????
I scored one hamburger bean and a few sea urchins plus one small sea biscuit. I can't stop collecting. Perhaps it was serving as a placebo for my 'shoe shopping' problem.
Back at the boat, we had a little rest then ventured into town and back to the school. In his backyard beside the school, we found the principal under a tree hose in hand, surrounded by a dozen pots and pans of various description and numerous large containers and bowls. When I remarked on the clean up required as a result of the Festival, he responded that most of it had been done the previous night by his wife and these would only take a few minutes. I said it looked more like at least a half an hour's hard work and he concurred...half an hour in 'Island Time' is a few minutes! Noting that they had plenty to keep them busy, we made a date for the next day after school to have our roti making lesson, weather permitting.
