Aisling was the 3rd boat through the locks at St Peter's Cape Breton, this year. Luckily for us the locks opened 2 days before. As soon as we landed 3 crew were on the phone and then after a quick egg sandwhich were on the way back to Halifax. I was uncertain at that point, of what crew loss we might have because of the delay. It will have an impact. It now looks like we might not make it to Horta until June 21-23rd and then to Spain July 2-4, approximately
We met with Herb last night and he suggested Wednesday looks like a good day to set out again. After a few phone calls it looks like most of our crew has committed to return and the remaining also think they will be OK.
It blew last night and rained here and was much more comfortable than it would have been on the water. We will take today and tomorrw to fuel and do a few things around the boat.
All is well.

06/03/2007, Just East of Canso, Nova Scotia 45 miles to go
Hello All: The circumnavigation of Sable Island is just about complete. We are now 45 miles from St Peters on a course of 315T and motoring at 6 knots, in light winds. We met with Herb again at supper time and he confirmed that we have made the right move. He said to expect gale force winds Monday evening and Easterly 15-20 in the morning. herb says we may be stuck here for a week........ Hard to know the impact of this yet. It unfortunately puts a lot of pressure on the crew that has air tickets already booked. Wally calls, standby.................. A hose just let go in the head. A pressure water line gave way..... luckily he was there when it happened. This is a classic example of why you should not use pressure water at sea. If Wally had not been in the head and we had been half way across the Atlantic we could possibly have lost all our water to the bilge before discovery. Anyway everyone is disappointed with the turn of the weather and we will wait to see what the next couple of days bring. We had a great supper tonight in the cockpit prepared by Wally of left overs.
All the best from Aisling I

06/02/2007, Off the Continental shelf, North Atlantic
Hello All:
Another pretty good day today. Feasted on bacon and egg sandwiches for breakfast and Bonnie's chicken soup for lunch and now shepherds pie is in the oven. Wally is looking after us in the galley. Met with Herb our radio weather expert , as usual by radio at 5:00pm today. He confirmed that Tropical storm Barry will be here in 2 days and his suggestion is we head for St Pierre or Cape Breton. Otherwise we will be faced with 4-5 days of gale or storm force winds and seas while that system blows through. The prudent decision is to head back........ so we have changed course and will now pass north of Sable Island heading to St Peters. If the wind does not support that course we may head to St Pierre instead. Unfortunately this will have a big impact on some of the crew's plans and plane tickets. We do not know what the impact will be on our trip. Herb is saying now that the earliest window to get back on the water is Thursday........ we will have to be patient to see what this means about our trip. There are lots of other boats on the water that could be affected by this storm and many may not be as close to land as we are. We hope they will be safe. Well that's it from here. I will post tomorrow. All the best from Aisling I
