Aisling I
Back to Halifax
Rick
06/08/2007, North of Sable, West bound

Hello All: Aisling is now making a beeline, albeit slowly, to Halifax. Three crew members have run out of time and have asked to be dropped off. We are not sure , yet what this means for our trip. We have had nice weather but predominently light winds since turning around yesterday. It looks like the stationary low at 42N 56W will be giving Easterly winds for quite a few days yet and the gales Herb was predicting are now forming to the east of the Low's longitude. Bonnie and I are both struggling with what to do. It is not as simple a deciding to get back on the water soonest as we have to work out the Azores to Spain passage as well. We have also lost 2 crew for that part as well. It's a hard time for a crew search in hfx as the marblehead race is on soon a well. The wind gods are not showing us favour.

JF: Received your note, via Bonnie. Your comments are right on the money. Hope you had a good trip north.

we will keep you all posted. ETA Halifax for Noon on Saturday June 9th approx. All the best from Aisling I

Hello All: Last night ad yesterdayere a bit hard o the crew. 20-28k from the SE and sw built up the seas and we had 2 people down sick. None of us felt uch ike eating until Wally prepared Sharon's chicken Lasagna and a salad. It was great. Thanks Sharon. We met with Herb after missing him in St Peter's the night before and he cautioned us about proceeding further east because of extensive gales there on our course. As a result he gave us a way point of 42N and 60w to shoot for. That is 1 1/2 days south of Sable Island and disrupts our timing once again. It almost seems we are destined to continue circling Sable. We will have a crew meet tomorrow to discuss timing issues again. Until tomorrow night..... All the best from Aisling I

On The Road Again......

Hello All: St Peter's Cape Breton was "thick o' fog when we heft. The visibility was about 1/4 mile. Next stop Horta . Bonnie saw us off at the dock and we left with full stomachs after a large turkey diner with all the fixings It was very frustrating for me in St Peter's with no cell phone coverage and so many calls to make We are now 6 days behind schedule and I hope to try and make some of them back. There has been crew fallout because of the delay. Both Al Salsman and Wally Fraser can no longer do the Horta to Spain portion as they have run out of time in their busy schedules. So the hunt for crew is on. We have a couple of people in mind and will see what comes of it shortly. All is well on board and we are motoring out of the bay and on our way in sloppy foggy conditions. Until tomorrow night..... All the best from Aisling I

Terrific to follow your trip. Be careful: passages do not go along well with schedules.
Good luck.

Aisling was the 3rd boat through the locks at St Peter's Cape Breton, this year. Luckily for us the locks opened 2 days before. As soon as we landed 3 crew were on the phone and then after a quick egg sandwhich were on the way back to Halifax. I was uncertain at that point, of what crew loss we might have because of the delay. It will have an impact. It now looks like we might not make it to Horta until June 21-23rd and then to Spain July 2-4, approximately
We met with Herb last night and he suggested Wednesday looks like a good day to set out again. After a few phone calls it looks like most of our crew has committed to return and the remaining also think they will be OK.
It blew last night and rained here and was much more comfortable than it would have been on the water. We will take today and tomorrw to fuel and do a few things around the boat.
All is well.
