Still in Exmouth

Exmouth - Wednesday 13 September
Saturday we rode into town to get a few things; and Terry bumped into this man accidently. He turned around to appologise at the same time a woman said “isn’t that Terry and Bonnie?” It was Dave’s (Sonja’s husband) parents Michael & Malena! Talk about a small world. We had a chat and invited them to the boat later that day for a cuppa as well as showing them the boat.
Later that day, Terry and I went out on the boat to run the water maker – so we didnt even have the sails up. We saw so many whales all around us it was incredible! A Mum and bub suckling near shore was the highlight since they were so close and not in a hurry to move. WOW! Unfortunately using a phone for a camera, I couldn’t manage a decent photo! I am kicking myself every day for leaving my camera at home!
Sunday we took Michael & Malena out for a sail – and yes! You guessed it....whales as far as the eye could see! So many were breaching and making such a splash it was quite a show. On the way back in to the marina, we saw a big green turtle swimming on the surface before ducking under in fright once he saw me looking at him! Now, I know my face can be a bit scary.......but how rude! After we had our sail, our “guests” left, we read and had a nap and then went over to their place for dinner!. Malena cooked a feast for us in the camp kitchen where they have their new caravan. Pasta, chicken in pajamas, with her famous rich pasta sauce; fresh salad with all the veggies and home made biscuits (cookies for you yanks) for dessert. Yummmy. The next morning we rode into town to get a coffee and there they (Michael & Malena) were again at the same coffee place, so we joined them. It has really been nice to spend quality time with them – since we had only managed to see them during family doos which are usually hectic and lots of things going on. Sonja is well loved by them and it is so nice to be a part of this family.
Last night we rode into Sue and Rob’s place, to borrow their car to get fuel in jerry cans for the boat. Rob ended up taking Terry in while I stayed and had another visit with my gorgeous friend. Later that night Rob gave us a lift back to the boat – bikes and all!
Today we rode into town again to grab a few last minute things and do a couple more loads of wash. Of course I had to have a coffee while we waited! We were buggered when we got back so had a read of our books and then a nap. This retirement life sure is great!
