Frank & Sarah's Visit - Land...
16 January 2010 | Bocas del Toro, Panama
Carol/Sunny
My cousin Frank Thomas and his daughter Sarah Thomas arrived on the Air Panama flight at 8:00 am Tuesday, January 5th. Frank immediately took his shoes off and changed into his shorts. We walked through town from the airport (only about 6 blocks) and had breakfast at the Pirate's Bar. They had been up all night flying, so they took naps off and on throughout the day.
Jan. 6 - (I'm dating my blog as it plays an important part later on) - Frank went up the mast to rerun a spinnaker halyard and silicone the sail track. We ran the jib sheets and worked on getting Alaunt ready to go sailing. We taxied to the Smithsonian Research Institute to make a reservation for their tour tomorrow, but was told to just show up at 3:00. We walked back along the beach exploring and taking pictures of all the beautiful birds, plants and flowers. Stopped on the beach for lunch at Isla Mar (see picture). We had Happy Hour in the cockpit of Alaunt with a marisco (seafood) stirfry prepared by Chef Demento (Ron).
Jan. 7 - Frank and Sarah rented bikes and explored Isla Colon in the morning. In the afternoon we took the tour at the Smithsonian. Ron and I had taken the tour last November. We had the same guides but were able to go down some of the paths we couldn't take last time because they were so muddy due to torrential downpours. The guides were very knowledgeable showing us all the different species of plants and flowers. The highlight of the tour was sighting a 3-toed sloth with her baby on her tummy, right in the tree in front of us. We had dinner at the Calypso Cantina in Bocas Marina.
