Mona Monkeys

07 October 2012 | Grenada
Carol/sunny and gorgeous
We only had one deadline in our island tour and that was to meet the Mona monkeys in the Grand Etang Forest Preserve. This Forest Preserve is in the rain forest and gets 162 inches of rain a year. The lush green trees, flowers and grasses were absolutely gorgeous. As Cutty approached the turnout, he honked his horn. Then as we pulled over to the side of the road, the monkeys started coming out of the trees. What fun! Cutty had some bananas with him, and the first monkey came right inside the van with us. When we got out, Ron was the first volunteer for a monkey on his head. Cutty put bananas on everyone's head and arms and we all had our monkey pictures. My monkey was standing on my arm with his foot on my shoulder and eating the banana out of my hand. They chewed the bananas and stored the food in their cheeks to eat later. The biggest money had the fattest cheeks. They were so healthy looking and tame. We shared our monkeys with one of the other taxis. Finally the monkeys went back into the trees and Cutty said they don't come back out until later in the evening. We had made it just in time.
