Cutty and the Plants

07 October 2012 | Grenada
Carol/sunny and gorgeous
(Cutty and the cocoa plant)

During our entire drive around the island, Cutty stopped and/or pointed out many of the trees, plants, herbs, spices, etc. that grew in Grenada. We actually walked up into the trees in a very small area (10 x 20 feet) and he showed us the cocoa plant (he opened the pod and we ate some), cinnamon bark, tumeric (saffron), yams, and a few other spices I just can't remember. He showed us so many things it was overwhelming: nutmeg, lemon grass, allspice, cloves, papaya, callaloo, bananas, plantains, avacados, calabash and more!

He showed us the nutmeg tree so many times, I asked him if there was a test later. 90% of the nutmeg industry was destroyed in Hurricane Ivan and they are just starting to come back.
