Florida ... finally

27 November 2010 | Jacksonville Beach
Wayne
We finally made Florida yesterday arriving at Fernadina Beach after a rather interesting passage through Jekyll Creek which is very shallow and a very choppy St. Andrew's Sound. Then when we arrived the marina asked us to park on the face wall but with a 3 knot following current flowing I was unable to stop the boat in rather high winds and unfortunately did some damage to the bow pulpit which I have to get repaired later in the winter. Dang nabbit.

While Fernadina Beach is a rather pretty seaside town (the lead picture) I wasn't in the best of moods nor very charitable towards the marina staff for putting us in that position. So the next morning I was more than happy to say ...happy trails ... despite cold temperatures (yes in Florida, go figure) and blustery winds we set off.

We didn't get very far today and stopped at Jacksonville Beach so that we would have time to stock the boat (read fuel, water & pump out) and then go to a grocery store for some basic provisions. We're currently sitting at Palm Cove Marina which gave us access to the stores we needed.

Tomorrow we'll push off for St. Augustine and we'll take time to see some of the town.

I know I owe you all several installments of my travels but when you're moving everyday it's hard to keep up especially when you have limited internet access but I promise I'll get them updated in the next week or so.

Thanks for following the blog. Ciao for now.
