Taking a break in Falmouth, MA

19 July 2012 | Falmouth, MA
Linda/ very cloudy, rain
Because we were told the anchorage would be crowded with fishing boats due to a fishing tournament scheduled for the weekend, we departed Martha's Vineyard. Our planned destination, Nantucket, didn't have a mooring ball available for the night so Jim got us dock space at Falmouth, MA. The trip was short, and in spite of rain, we arrived early in the day. We found a boat already docked in our spot. They hadn't left yet and were waiting for fuel. The dock master was apologetic and asked us if we could wait for about 20 minutes...so we just hung out circling around. Then she called and told us that there was now room for us on the dock. Apparently they had moved a few yachts around because the one taking our space was still there...they had decided to stay another night! We squeezed (actually parallel parked) in the created space as rain poured down. We called a taxi and visited the local laundromat for a fun filled afternoon. But it was raining anyway... A nearby sandwich shop was convenient for lunch and they had the best Cape Cod potato chips! We were in Cape Cod!! So that really was the highlight of our trip to Falmouth although I'm sure we probably missed the reasons why it is a vacation destination for many people.
