Rain to Southport
26 April 2012 | Southport, NC
Linda/ stormy
We departed Myrtle Beach at 7 am in quiet, calm water. The calm after the storm! It was cool, cloudy, and there was no wind. We went through the remaining part of the ’Rock Pile’ without incident. We had been looking forward to an 80 degree sunny day. At 11 am it is still raining. We are waiting for the sun. With the nasty weather, plans changed and we decided to stay the night at Southport, NC. This marina was very nice. The sun finally came out and the day was warm, but with a chilly breeze. We walked into the small seaport village and had a late lunch at the Yacht Basin Café. My fish tacos were delicious with a Mango salsa. Perfect! Jim loved his Munchie burger. Pepperoni, salami, and bacon on a burger. With Cheese! We had the defibrillator standing by.
We ended up staying another night due to forecasted high winds which proved to be true! We were able to confirm our plans and reservations for our trip to Philadelphia and then Denver. With wind gusts in the 30s and sustained wind in the 20s we were glad we decided to stay tied to the dock. A walk into town rewarded us with lunch at the Café again. Storms started building and hail and rain came in early evening. We toasted the sunset with a glass of wine.
