Are you ready for the beach??

Linda/Beautiful!
We left Southport Marina in moderate wind at 8:15 am. Other than a couple of ferries and a sailboat passing, we had a quiet trip up the Cape Fear River. We got to Carolina Beach at midday and grabbed a mooring ball in the new mooring field. Nice spot. We plan to spend a few days here.
We ended up spending 10 days there!!! We enjoyed walking on the wide, sandy beaches. Dockmaster restaurant was a favorite for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It was convenient as we could tie up the dinghy next to the door! IT was a beautiful setting. One day we walked a couple of miles into town. People here are so friendly and warm. The weather was perfect, in the 80s the entire week.
Thursday night we went to Joyner Marina for water, a pump out, and laundry. Hungry for lunch, we found there was only one restaurant close by. It was on the fishing pier and run by a friendly woman who fixed us each a burger. Not a real memorable experience. The pier was interesting. We found a pelican in need of assistance. He was happily eating fish from the hands of a fisherman, but he had a hook in his knee. We called wildlife rescue who told us to capture the pelican and they would be out to take the hook out of his leg, but we didn’t have the right net to capture him safely. As it was, the fisherman who was feeding him decided he would bring his net tomorrow and see if he could get the hook out. He had done it before. Hopefully the Pelican is in better shape now.
We headed back to the mooring ball in Carolina Beach the next morning and spent the weekend there, witnessing a powerful thunderstorm that rocked the boat. The lightening was spectacular, but too close for comfort.
This spot is one we will visit again.
