Up the Delaware to Philadelphia
29 May 2012 | Philadelphia Marine Center
Linda / partly cloudy and windy
It was an easy day with some wind but coming from the wrong direction! We motored up the Delaware, seeing little traffic until a tug keep passing us, turning around and then passing again. It became irritating the third time and we were wondering what was going on when he pulled off of the river. We never could figure out what he was doing, but he certainly made our ride uncomfortable with his wakes.
Right after he turned off we heard a loud clunk under the boat. We had hit a tree and split it in two! Jim slowed the boat and went below to check to see if anything was damaged...no holes in the hull, etc. We checked the rudder and everything seemed ok. We did hire a diver to check for damage once we arrived in Philadelphia.
As we got closer to the city there were many ships docked along the river. We had to keep watching in case they were moving. The view of Philadelphia from the river was beautiful.
We docked at the Philadelphia Marine Center and had dinner at Morgan's Pier, a tike bar near the marina. This was a great location, however, the Ben Franklin Bridge was over us and we heard the traffic and the trains incessant noise. Music blared from Mogan's Pier until the wee hours of the morning. Wecome to the city!
