Getting Ready for Launch
09 December 2012 | Chagrin Falls, OH
We're still at home in Ohio, preparing for Christmas and New Years, but work is going in Florida getting Alize ready for the new season. We invested in upgraded navigational electronics including a Garmin HD Digital Radar dome, a new Garmin 4210 chartplotter and Scitex AIS transponder. Our Raymarine electronics were very good but like any computer that is 8 years old, the technology today far excedes the technology of 2004. The new gear is being installed by Whiticar Marine Electronics. I can't wait to see it all in place.
We expect to return to Fort Pierce, FL around January 10th and get to work on some bottom work before launch. The gelcoat on the keel took a real beating last April when we were anchored near Everglades City. Because of opposing current and winds, the anchor wound up under the boat. The chain beat against the keel, chipping the gelcoat. We'll have to grind off some of the gelcoat and all of the rust and recoat. Plus, we need to re-do the anti fouling paint. We probably have 3 days of work facing us before we can launch. Once we get back in the water, we'll get up to speed with this blog and keep you all updated on our new adventures. This will be the winter we will spend in the Abacos. Looking forward to sharing the adventure with you. Keep posted.
