The Newest Adventure

31 January 2013 | Titusville, FL
Our first adventure of the season was to see a rocket launch at Cape Canaveral on the 31st. This was supposed to be a shake down cruise. It was. After overheating the engine 30 miles north of Ft. Pierce, we were wondering if we were going to make it to Titusville. Fortunately, repairs were made at great expense and we were on our way. In Melbourne, we met up with our old friends, Chris and Sandy Taylor, who were down from NY to visit family. Somehow we met up in Eau Gallie (pronounce Oh Golly) and got to spend a very pleasant day together.
We arrived in Titusville on Weds. afternoon in plenty of time to see the launch of a Delta V rocket from the Cape. It was a night launch and it was spectacular. We were standing at the end of the dock in the marina and when the rocket ignited, the horizon lit up and a ball of light like the sun rose up into the sky. After a few seconds, we could hear the rumble of the engines. Then the first stage shut down and the sky went black before the second stage lit up and the rocket continued its flight. That was cool.
The next day we went over to the Kennedy Space Center. That was fantastic. We got there at 9 in the morning and left at 4:45. We didn't get to see everything so we'll have to go back. The picture posted is of a Saturn rocket like the ones that were used to send astronauts to the moon. Overall, this was one of the best places we have ever seen. The exhibits were incredible. If you're ever around Cocoa or Titusville, the Kennedy Space Center is a must see.
We're leaving tomorrow, Feb 1 and heading back to Ft. Pierce. First stop will be Melbourne, then Serenity Island, then Ft. Pierce. Next stop in the adventure will be Abaco in the Bahamas. Keep in touch with us.
