Yes, Virginia, there was a Day IV
26 June 2011
Monday...others sit at their desks, no deadlines to meet, we head out on a radiant morning after numerous storms overnight. OK, so maybe some of us didn't hear the storms.
Belhaven, NC is a beautiful little town, population 800. Fathers Day closed down the town with multiple celebrations at local churches. You have to respect the South.
Monday morning Eric, the dock master, recommended Farm Boy for a biscuit breakfast. He was right, the biscuits were to die for.
We bid adieu to the dinghy as she took on water during the storm and could no longer continue the journey.
A quick gas stop brought us to Hobucken, NC where the shrimp boats come in. They catch approx 5000 - 6000 lbs of shrimp per day. This stop had the processing chutes from the boat.
Clear weather, calm winds led to a smooth journey through the Pongo River, Pamlico River and Neuse River to Oriental, NC. Our sailing friends from the Dismal recommended we stop by Oriental. It has a charming motel and wonderful dog friendly deck restaurant. It is rumored to be a town of hippies sharing their art and friendship.
We docked in Morehead City, NC to pick up a part for the boat. We decided to stay the night. Dined at the Sanitary Restaurant and are now kicking back on the boat at the marina. We are in good company... The Aquaholic is being delivered to one of the owners of Five Guys (Tyler). A 48' SeaRay. They probably thought that they were going to be the biggest boat in the marina till that 97' yacht showed. Geez.
Skies are clear, heading out early. Need to close in on the South Carolina shoreline.
