Altair's Cruz Nuz
cruising, vb, kroozing, working on your boat in exotic locations around the Caribbean....Dudley and Becca
We thought we were leaving TODAY!
Becca B
05/28/2010, Tyrell Bay, Carriacou!

Dudley has already has already reminded me of our agreement with a reality check..."If we are going to make it to Puerto Rico by the middle of July, we will not be able to stop every place we want, nor stay as long as we want!" I know this to be true, but it doesn't make this any easier to swallow or follow!

We jumped into action and started to remove the outboard from the dink and mount it on the stern as we have done 100's of times, but it's not going to happen today! The screws for the clamping system completely wallowed out the receiving end of the outboard! We have no way to hold the Yamaha, 8hp to the dink, nor to the board on the stern of Altair! My captain made an immediate decision to stay and search for a solution! Weld the old holes closed, too big anymore, useless in the state they're in right now, then tap and drill new holes! Easy right? NOT! He just doesn't have a 1/2" tap on board, go figure. Neither does anyone else for that matter.

We're staying til Monday because checking in or out on a Sunday is overtime in the land of custom's and immigration offices in most countries we've visited so far!

I'm thrilled to be able to explore more, but my guy will be searching all over the island for some help. He asked Chris and Charles, friends anchored here in Tyrell Bay too and it's unanimous..."sounds like a good idea 'til you try to execute it on a small island"!

Stay tuned, Dudley and Bec

This is IT!

05/25/2010, Leaving Grenada for Carriacou!

We took off for our first big sail since July of 2009. We anticipated a 6 hour sail...but we know better!

We had a spectacular sail up the lee coast of Grenada with winds off our beam and speeds of 6-7 knots all the way to the "Kick'em Jenny, Underwater Volcano Exclusion zone. That's when we decided to continue sailing up past Tyrell Bay for a shot a single tack! NOT!

It took us 9 hours, the last 4 hours bashing into the wind and seas with only the main up to steady the boat, sort of!

We were soaked, tired and loved it! What a treat to have the wind, the speed of sail and dusting off the cobwebs!

When we arrived in Tyrell Bay, we pulled up next to "Halleluyah, Lady D's floating bar! Who yells over but Robert and Caroline, offering to pick us up! "Just leave the dink on the deck and we'll come get ya"!!!

What a great way to end a fabulous sail after so long! North no less!

Hugs, Dudley and Bec

We left the dock!

05/24/2010, Goodbye Clarkes Court Bay Marina!!!

It's been 5 months since we sailed...but don't get too excited! We are sailing around the SW corner of Grenada, about 8 miles, to Martin's Bay, just outside of the Lagoon at St. Georges.

We had a lot to do, were supposed to leave by 11, didn't pull it off til after 1pm, but it was hard! We made lots of friends to bid farewell, had lots to do after living on board and not sailing, but we did it!

We've been invited to dinner onboard Marie Galante 2 as a generous reconnection and an aurevoir! Wheeennnnnn!

Of course, we were dead into the wind after we turned the corner and headed north, go figure, wind outta of the ENE!!!!

Dinner, beef, shrimp fondue in a special broth! We were late, but managed to gather at the pool for some wine and apps. Then a shower in the new and fabulous facilities at Port Louis Marina. (Nothing like the construction mess we were privy to when we were there last hurricane season). Very nice now!

Richard and Lucie are so wonderful, dinner was magical and they will always hold a special place in our hearts!

Lady Lulu and Richard came to visit!

05/22/2010

When we got the call on the VHF that Lucie and Richard were actually here at the Hog Island Anchorage, we jumped in the dingy and went to say hi!

We've been friends now since we arrived in Grenada last July, 2009. So many memories, such wonderful friends!

Fish Friday, Oh No AGAIN?

05/21/2010, Clarkes Court Bay Marina...

Our neighbors and fun Dutch friends Hetta and Paul on S/V Winterlude are leaving! Hetta is flying to Curacao in the ABC's and Paul is going to single hand his big Irwin 43. Hetta is not a sailor she exclaims and Paul really wants to do this! He's been looking for crew and we even contemplated finally seeing Bonaire! What an adventure! Right?

For Paul, because we have our own to address and we're sticking to it!

It was a very nice turnout!

More later on our eminent departure!

A very long Day, continues!

05/20/2010, Grenada Marine, St. Davids

I couldn't believe that Dudley would be up for a long bus trip East to visit St. Davids! We have lots of friends who love it here...Will they have a spot of our 34' Tartan. We are still trying to decide what to do for hurricane season 2010.

Do we carry on and boogy and sail north to find a place or try to secure a place here in Grenada! Safe storage is usually booked way in advance, like during last year's season, but we don't do things normally!

We had a long ride but at the end was another long walk. Two in one day! My monster man was up for it and St. Davids Bay is gorgeous! Do I sound like a broken record? Yes, they do have a spot...so why don't we make our decision even harder.

We still don't know what we're going to do, so stay in tuned to our travels right here at Sailblogs!

Dudley and Bec
