Moonhole...The IDEA!

11 June 2010 | SW Peninsula, Bequia
Becca
The four of us decided yesterday to make the journey and see how close to shore we could get. Carol and John took us in their luxuriously large inflatable on an excursion of wonder! It was quite invigorating in open water, way out to the end of the peninsula, a few miles for sure... where we found "Moonhole". Yeiks...pretty precarious, not happening...climbing ashore that is with the surge and those rocky cliffs.

A little FYI: Tom and Gladys Johnson built a windowless, magical, Swiss Family Robinson kind of world on a narrow tract of land on the south end of Bequia that can only be reached by boat or by a looooong hike! Wish we could've taken the tour or better yet become a guest at one of their homes...no walls, barely a roof as we know it, spaces merging into each other, and did I mention "Moonholes"? Quite possibly the most creative, simplistic, at one with nature (eat your heart out Frank Lloyd Wright, nature observatory ever to be dreamed up. Every place comes with a cook and a maid...ooooolaaaalaaa...just too hard to handle.

The Windward Guide emphasize caution when approaching by dingy so we listened...sadly. Very interesting, most absolutely piqued our interest...just can't do everything and will just have to put THIS one on our list of places to 'rent'! Hmmm, a honeymoon perhaps?

Vessel Name: Altair
Vessel Make/Model: Tartan 34'
Hailing Port: Coconut Grove Sailing Club
Crew: Dudley Clark and Becky Butler
About: Dudley has owned this Tartan sloop and has been cruising on her since 1986. Becky joined the good sloop back in 2000 when we first started cruising together and he has been 'training' me ever since! I couldn't be happier! I've been sailing all my life, but cruising is a whole different fish!
Extra: This is the most extended cruise we've braved on this wonderful, old boat of ours which is planned to be about 2 years! We left Miami in late February of 2008 and want to get below the hurricane belt by the end of July! Ok, so it's July, 2011...we're close, but not home yet!
