Ruh Roh...Bad News!

15 June 2010 | Our Home in Miami...
Becca
We did get wifi, just as our friends so graciously declared, just in time for some bad news! My good friend Caroleeena, who is watching our house when she's in Miami, found standing water on the first floor or our townhouse. The ceiling is sagging and stained downstairs, the carpet in the master bedroom is wet and stained upstairs and we need to go home to take care of it. Our son came down from West Palm and cannot find a leak anywhere. He ran water for an extended period of time, out of every possible source, while scouring every nook and cranny in our home to find the cause of the problem, to to avail.

Unfortunately, Dudley and I are 'discussing it' and he is hellbent in getting to Puerto Rico for the hurricane season. I think it's too late to be going anywhere, with a predicted active season before us and the weather is already very tumultuous right now! He says it's the best time of year to go sailing. I said I like to sail more than stay in a marina any day, but not during hurricane season, and he says that some people sail their boats during the season because it's so great. Ruh Roh...HE SAID, SHE SAID...The weather barreling across the Atlantic from Africa is making me nervous as a seal in shark infested waters. We have no place to put the boat, we've checked...so I say go back to Grenada and fly home to deal with our 'flood'. Dudley says I'm reacting out of fear...and he's right...why tempt fate! We should've begun our journey north in December, not June with the Hurricane season upon us.

What WILL we do?

Vessel Name: Altair
Vessel Make/Model: Tartan 34'
Hailing Port: Coconut Grove Sailing Club
Crew: Dudley Clark and Becky Butler
About: Dudley has owned this Tartan sloop and has been cruising on her since 1986. Becky joined the good sloop back in 2000 when we first started cruising together and he has been 'training' me ever since! I couldn't be happier! I've been sailing all my life, but cruising is a whole different fish!
Extra: This is the most extended cruise we've braved on this wonderful, old boat of ours which is planned to be about 2 years! We left Miami in late February of 2008 and want to get below the hurricane belt by the end of July! Ok, so it's July, 2011...we're close, but not home yet!
