Becca
We had no idea we would leave Altair for so long! We really should’ve prepared her better for such a long respite because she is a complete mess!

All the canvas was off so she was naked, sunburned in fact, and we could sort’ve see the black stuff running down the hull, not the usual vertical rust stripes! The worst so far was what we could not see at 11p last night! We arrived with 5 duffle bags that were stuffed to the point of bursting their seams with the ‘stuff’ we had to have from the states, so we couldn’t move. We had to share the space with the dodger frame, all the cockpit cushions, jerry cans and now this.

We had a broken hinge on the old, decrepit center hatch which was a long time coming, our dingy was flat as a pancake and we were greeted by stinky, black, persistent and rampant MOLD EVERYWHERE!!!

It was too late to do anything now, there were sheets on the bed so we crashed in what we imagined to be a fluffy, thin veil of mold under our resting bods.

HOLY COW!!! Guess we should’ve gotten some damp-rid buckets, ya think?

Vessel Name: Altair
Vessel Make/Model: Tartan 34'
Hailing Port: Coconut Grove Sailing Club
Crew: Dudley Clark and Becky Butler
About: Dudley has owned this Tartan sloop and has been cruising on her since 1986. Becky joined the good sloop back in 2000 when we first started cruising together and he has been 'training' me ever since! I couldn't be happier! I've been sailing all my life, but cruising is a whole different fish!
Extra: This is the most extended cruise we've braved on this wonderful, old boat of ours which is planned to be about 2 years! We left Miami in late February of 2008 and want to get below the hurricane belt by the end of July! Ok, so it's July, 2011...we're close, but not home yet!
