Wow the Sun came out yesterday and the northern fronts are finally letting up...it's been crazy...REALLY! We arrived here @ Unity Isle, as the locals call it, a week ago...with the wind and seas hammering us from the north as we bashed into it for three hours, officially checking out and leaving Grenada behind us on the 21st.

The wind and seas are swinging back down to the east, starting tomorrow, so we should be able to leave on Wednesday and we couldn't be happier. We are shriveled, tired of the wind waves, and sincerely hoping that the dry season becomes dry. We like the wind, E/SE would be perfect...but "You can't always get what you want"! We can still see Grenada from this sweet, protected little spot at Union Island. Technically it's Carriacou that we can see, but it Grenada...and that is not a good sign!

We have sailed, or motorsailed, 42.5 nm so far, for an 1800 mile journey ahead of us..., at 5 knots...this should be very interesting.

We truly love it here! The hiking has been superior, I've been reunited with my friends, Sheena, Mae, Lorna and now her Mom, Deena ,Father Roach, Tony (blue eyed local that I remember by calling him Tony Curtis) Glen Roy, and many others ! It's really lovely to say hello by name and it's truly stunning here!

We must go...hopefully tomorrow, March 1, will give us a window!

Vessel Name: Altair
Vessel Make/Model: Tartan 34'
Hailing Port: Coconut Grove Sailing Club
Crew: Dudley Clark and Becky Butler
About: Dudley has owned this Tartan sloop and has been cruising on her since 1986. Becky joined the good sloop back in 2000 when we first started cruising together and he has been 'training' me ever since! I couldn't be happier! I've been sailing all my life, but cruising is a whole different fish!
Extra: This is the most extended cruise we've braved on this wonderful, old boat of ours which is planned to be about 2 years! We left Miami in late February of 2008 and want to get below the hurricane belt by the end of July! Ok, so it's July, 2011...we're close, but not home yet!
