Tuesday, 18 March. Deb & I finally finished sanding about noon yesterday. With perfect timing, Edwin showed up with two gallons of Tuff Stuff, epoxy primer. He also came to measure the boat (re: the charge for blasting. It turns out this was a bigger, better machine which is why it took ~ 1 day instead of five. For this machine, they charge by the square meter and they estimated the hulls @ 90 m2. I estimated the hulls @ 588 sf (14 kits @ 42 sf/kit) or 55m2. BIG difference. Well we measured the hull in three sections - trapezoidal stern, rectangular mid section, and triangular bow, plus keels. The calculations came to 580 sf or 54 m2. That should save over $1,000. Cool. Yesterday afternoon, I applied on coat of Tuff Stuff to both hulls. It took about 5 hours and 3 gallons, but I got it done. I boy was I whipped. I collapsed, had my very last home brew and then went for a shower and a swim in the pool (in that order - I was so dirty I could never had entered the pool before a real shower). We had heard on the marina VHF net that the restaurant was celebrating St. Patty's Day with Happy Hour drinks all night, and Guinness stew. Sounds like a plan. NOT. They had Guinness to drink and "green soup," which was probably their traditional Sanchico with green added, but no Guinness stew. Bummer. We went back tot the boat and I made a fritata instead. I offered a Reuben as a sort of bastardized corn beef and cabbage, but Deb preferred the fritata. Today, the yard guys are going to take the tarp down and acid wash, wax, and buff the hulls above the water line. We get to take it easy. (Relatively speaking, I still have several projects to tend to, but not as stressful or messy.)
