Just a little time aboard

07 January 2016 | Isla Debora
Mark
We decided it was time to spend a little time aboard again. We are in the middle of painting the interior walls of our house, the NFL playoffs start Sat, but we just wanted to get away. So, yesterday morning, we loaded enough provisions on the boat or a few days and took off. We had a glorious sail across Bahia Almirante. I even yelled (on the VHF) at another cat who was motoring on a parallel course. It did shame him into unrolling his gennie, but never shut off his engine. Some people are just stink potters at heart. We sailed through Dolphin Bay into Laguna Paulos and over to our island, Isla Debora. We hadn't been to the island for some time and found the dock in need of repair. One of the posts had rotted through and when I stepped there, it collapsed causing the dock to sag. I'll need to get our caretaker to fix it. That afternoon we went over to 'Los Amigos' a 'chicken shack' restaurant run by 'Uncle Ernie' a Panamanian who is quite a character. Yesterday was his 77th birthday and a good crowd o Gringos showed up to help him celebrate. He does cook a mean fried chicken! A good time was had by all. Last night we re-learned the cruiser's time clock. We were back from dinner by 7:00 (before dark) and by 9:00 had had a couple drinks and were ready for bed. Today we need to finish cleaning the boat. (It gets green so quickly down here!) I also want to check the bottom ans see how the Coppercoat is holding up. I know there was quite a bit of growth from just sitting at the dock, but last time nearly all of it fell off after a few miles of sailing. We'll see if the same is true this time. I also brought the kayak I just finished building and I'll get a chance to try it out in flat water. Deb is going over to Brent & Jan's place on the mainland to hang out with Jan and I will undoubtedly end up there by 5:00 for a drink before bringing Deb home. The quiet this morning is amazing. At home there are lots of parrots squawking and oropendula plus the noise of neighbors and dogs barking, etc. This morning I awakened to the howler monkeys greeting the dawn, but even they have quieted down and it is totally silent. The wind is calm and the water is like glass. Really a magical place.

In the Spring of 2016, we sailed from Bocas del Toro, Panama, to Cuba and back with stops at the Albuquerque Cays, Providencia, and the Cayman Islands. We cruised the South coast of Cuba some and then left the boat for some inland excursions.
