Sunday, April 19. Today's forecast calls for SE winds, clocking to S. Our main course will be ~58* and we need ~60* off the true wind to sail comfortably, so we are looking for wind from 120* or more. Upon awakening, we have 110* @ 15-20 with gusts. We wait until 10:00 and still have 110*. Given that we need to go 20+ miles, I think we should leave now, so we do. Double reef main, motor sail into wind to get out of Indian Key anchorage, then turn NE and unfurl ~2/3 of gennie. Comfortable sail @ 4-5 kts, but only @ 43* with the way point @ 53*. As we get closer to shore, we tack out to the edge of Hawk channel and try again. Wind still hasn't changed. Second tack out we go all the way to deep water and take Hens & Chickens reef on the outside. Now the waypoint is down to 49* and we can pull 50*! Wind continues 15- 20+ and we are now making 6 kts quite comfortably. When we reach the waypoint, we can fall off another 10* to enter N of Rodriguez Key and our speed jumps to 7 kts and is more comfortable. Entering the anchorage, we spin into the wind and drop the main, continue around, gybe gennie, and sail into the anchorage under just gennie @ 3 kts. There is an uncharted stake and a HUGE mooring ball (like for the QE II, but in 8' of water!) both of which we leave to port before turning in to anchor in the lee of the island. Very comfortable in 7' of water. Beautiful day, easy sail despite the winds and tomorrow they should be SE>S as we continue NE.

Always & All Ways's Photos - Main
In the Spring of 2016, we sailed from Bocas del Toro, Panama, to Cuba and back with stops at the Albuquerque Cays, Providencia, and the Cayman Islands. We cruised the South coast of Cuba some and then left the boat for some inland excursions.
