We got one!! A BIG one!!

On our sail from George Town to Conception we threw our line in the water once again hoping for a fish to hit. Up until this point we have trolled almost every time we have sailed between islands, always coming up empty handed.

If you saw one of our previous entries from Clarence Town, we helped our friends on Sabbatical clean their mahi mahi. Well, Chad told us about a "special lure." So we went straight to the store and got one of those "special lures" and it worked. Big Time!

I was on watch and Maxwell was taking a nap down below. We had just passed the top of Long Island and were heading East. Out of nowhere the hand line started whizzing so I grabbed it and started shouting FISH, FISH, FISH. What a way to be woken up!

It was the perfect conditions, weather wise, for our first fish. The winds had become light and variable so we were motor sailing. Once Maxwell had the line in his hands, I took the engine out of gear and Anastasia sailed herself along at 1.5kts. I love this boat.

When the fish was close enough to see, Maxwell calmly said "It's a Dorado." I was jumping around all over the place with excitement, you would have thought I was a fish. I grabbed the camera and started shooting. The colors of the fish were amazing. While still in the water, we could see the beautiful blue and bright yellow, looking almost artificial.

I doused our teak decks with plenty of water in preparation of the messy steps to come. That is all I will say about that. Yuck. Once along side we got a closer view of our prize. Maxwell gaffed it and brought it on board. Once "subdued" we were able to get a good look at the 51", female mahi mahi. What a prize!

Needless to say, our freezer is stocked. We won't be fishing for a while.

We spent 4 nights in beautiful Conception Island and sailed here to Cat Island on Sunday. Weather has kept us aboard for two days but we hope to venture ashore today.
