Overcoming Idle Hands

14 April 2010 | Marsh Harbour, Aboco

Ahh, the boat projects have begun! Since we left our home back in November we have not really done any boat projects. Other than regular maintenance, our list of need-to-dos has been neglected. I could say that because Anastasia is a full time live-aboard for us, that it is hard to tear things apart while eating and sleeping on her too. Sounds like a good enough excuse, huh? But actually the real reason is that we have been very lazy. It is just so much easier to lie down and read a book or eat something than even think of boat projects. Thus the list has grown by leaps and bounds. But no more will it grow because we have broken the seal on our motivation. Today, we did two projects! All before lunch!

First on the agenda was the non-working electric bilge pump. If truth be told, this is something we have known about for a few weeks and wanted to remedy quickly. We thought it was just a short in the wiring leading down to the float switch but we were wrong. Lets just say that I am glad we brought a back-up pump. Now we have a brand new bilge pump ready to suck away any water that creeps into the depths of Anastasia's belly. The old one was really rusty and gross. Probably original.

The second item to be attacked was the wind generator regulator hook up. When we first installed the wind generator we had issues with it grounding and not producing amps. For that reason we did not wire it through the regulator and continued to use it that way. Well, we had one too many nights of climbing on the back rail to manually stop the blades from turning. All it took was the connection of a few wires and BAM!! We are back in business. Blow, Baby Blow! Hopefully we will not see more than 14.2 volts again!

Later on this afternoon we are having a refrigerator repairman come and have a look at our Adler Barbour unit. It has been acting funny lately and running 24/7. This cannot be good for the compressor so we are anxious to see what the problem is. How convenient that one of the two warranty approved technicians in the whole of the Abocos is here in Marsh Harbour.

Hopefully we will be celebrating a "hat trick" tonight at happy hour!
