The Berry Islands
by Jen
04/27/2011

This photo is a "stand in." We had SO much fun while we were in the Berry Islands that I forgot to take pictures. Whoopsie! Last season we passed this small chain of islands by without a second thought. Big mistake! This year we anchored behind Frozen Cay, a private island, just below Little Harbour. If you are looking for glitz and glam and lots to do, keep lookin' cause it 'aint here. What the Berries do offer is peace and quiet and less traveled beaches. There are miles to discover by dinghy and we were told that the lobster grow bigger over here. Too bad for us the season is over!

A must do is Flo's Conch Bar run by Chester, Flo's son. We went there two nights, one for drinks and one for an AMAZING dinner.

We went to the Berry islands last Thanksgiving and absolutely loved it. Spent a day and night in Hoffman Cay and it's now one of my favorite places.

We've Made Our Mark

Warderick Wells is one of our favorite places in the Bahamas. The grounds are SO beautuful! It is part of the Bahamas National Park and is a no-take zone by land and sea. We took a mooring in the north mooring field near the park office along with Glass Slipper. Since this is our second season in the Bahamas we knew about the famous Boo Boo Hill where cruisers leave a piece of driftwood behind with their boat name as a mark. We were prepared this year! We had the wood in the bilge from a beach in Mayaguana...all that was left was to paint it. Luckily, we had some blue and gold paint somewhere deep in a lazarette.

Now, if you ever visit Boo Boo Hill at Warderick Wells hopefully you will see our mark!

The "Wonderful Effect"
by Jen
04/14/2011, Exumas, Bahamas

Since being in the Bahamas we have been suffering from what I am calling the "Wonderful Effect." It is when everything is SO beautiful, the people are SO nice and you have the best damned time of your LIFE...EVERYDAY! I know by now some readers are getting tired of hearing about how beautiful it is here but I just cannot stop. We are grateful that this is our life!

We are very lucky to have the life we have. Great photos... We might end up in NE this summer so might stop on the Chesapeake to see you if we miss each other along the way. Keep reminding us how lucky we are!
A Little Bit About A Little Boy
by Jen
04/11/2011, Warderick Wells, Exumas

Most people are children at heart and this couldn't be truer about my friend John. We have had the pleasure of cruising for the past few weeks with our now good friends John and Cyndi on Glass Slipper. Getting to know them has been so much fun!

The little boy I mention in the title is not John but Tommy Tiller, the main character of the children's story John has written and published. The title of the book is "Tommy Tiller and His Dog Rudder." It is a fun read for adults while also being an informing and exciting read for kids. Tommy goes through a life-changing experience at the age of twelve when his parents give it all up for the cruising lifestyle. The bond he forms with his "Lassie-like" dog, Rudder will instantly warm your heart.

Check it out for yourself and you will surely enjoy it as I did. He sells them online at amazon.com. Click here for a direct link.

Back To George Town
by Jen
04/04/2011, George Town, Bahamas

We left Long Island on Thursday and had a Girls vs. Boys sail over to Conception. Cyndi and I sailed Anastasia and John & Maxwell sailed Glass Slipper. It was a quick trip, only about 18 miles or so and the guys let us win. It was a nice change of pace and fun to be the Captain for real!

Yesterday we sailed from Conception to George Town. It was a super fast sail, down wind the whole way using our spinnaker. It is amazing the power that sail offers and it's effect on our speed. Normally we'd be doing 4 knots and struggling to keep the sails full. Yesterday, we averaged 6.5 and at times saw almost 8!

While here in George Town we will do some laundry and reprovision before heading further north.

More later!
