Out in the wood shed

13 March 2009
Maxwell
So today we tackled the bowsprit. As Jen mentioned in our previous entry we found some rot. Our bowsprit is comprised of laminated teak and (we believe) white oak. Fortunately, the teak is in great shape! Just the white oak shows signs of decay. It was actually as simple as cutting out the bad sections of oak and leaving the good sections of teak. Lucky us, Jen's Grandfather (Pop) has a wood shop with a nice band saw. That's Jen's dad Howard helping us with the band saw.

Tomorrow we will plane white oak down to size, after that it's a lot of West Systems (epoxy) to make it good as new.

Stay tuned to see how it all turns out.
