Boat issues

It really was a beautiful trip from Falmouth. Sunny but light winds so we motored. Passed Martha's Vineyard, Newport and Block Island where we had planned to stop but it was only 1 pm so we kept on to Montauk. I was glad because Montauk is famous as a fishing destination and it is close to the famous Hamptons. It seemed fortuitous because we started having boat issues. The bowthruster which helps turn the boat in tight spaces (like docking) was making a very strange noise and an electrical alarm went off causing Keith to think we had problems with the engine getting juice and there might be an alternator problem. Montauk was going to be a blessing because of the plethora of boating activity. Wrong! There are tons of boats and a thriving charter business but it is all motor boats. Although not a problem in itself because of our particular issues the problem surfaced with the type of people available to do work. Rough! Two guys were sent from the boatyard and after waiting about 2 hours for them here they stagger looking like they were just coming off a 3 day binge with not a tool in sight. Keith said "thanks man but we got it fixed." This was no confidence-inspiring boatyard. Keith is really picky about who works on the boat and was considering going back to Falmouth where mechanics know the boat. I was against that - my addage - "when the going gets tough, the tough go to New York City." But seriously it was the weekend and we had found a marina across Long Island Sound near Mystic, Connecticut that seemed totally capable and would take us in Tuesday morning.
So we boarded the Long Island Railroad with a hotwire hotel booking - which turned out to be the Millenium United Nations. yuck! - if you knew how we feel about the UN and with that Abudinijad creep just having addressed them with his garbage about the US government being behind 911. But oh well - it was fun for two nights although hot and sticky - very unusual.
