Day 1 passage from the Tuamotos To Tahiti
09 June 2016 | South Pacific Ocean
Annecam admin Pip & Tom
¤145 nautical miles on day 1, the total distance for us is 343 miles, if we manage to keep sailing the way we are at the moment we plan to arrive at Tahiti at about midday tomorrow. ¤This passage has been very interesting so far to say the least. We started off with a nice 15 knot breeze from the north east and that didn't alter until a very intense storm broke right on top of us, this one had the lot, thunder, lightning, driving rain and the squalls it produced were extreme, I measured one of the gusts at 38 knots and the direction was all over the place. It even had us Sailing at 180 degrees to the heading we should have been on, it took about a mile to figure out what was happening. ¤Today we are sailing on a close reach, beating into quite large seas, we are still holding 7 knots of boat speed, Annecam shudders from bow to stern when she flies off one wave crashing into the next. ¤Apart from destroying some of our dishes when one of lockers was not shut properly all is well on Annecam.
