Twelve months ago today we were in the Caribbean, on the Island of Martinique deciding whether we should purchase a new dinghy as our current one was way too wet and small for our planned passage across the Pacific Ocean. The year was only eleven days old and we had been to the Islands of Bequia and St Lucia before arriving at Martinique, we were traveling with Jeff and Izzy on their lovely trawler Izzy R.
Two years ago today we had just completed the first 24 hours of our passage across the Atlantic Ocean. We had a bumpy start as we left Tenerife in the Canary Islands, we were sailing in the wind acceleration zone going past the Canary’s with a top recorded wind speed of 35 knots and a top boat speed of 11.2 knots we managed 150 nautical miles in the 24 hours that we had been sailing. I just receive the news that my dear father had passed away. I had very mixed feelings as we started this blue water passage on Annecam.
Three years ago today, we were both back at work here in Australia, Annie at Clarke Rubber and me with the Country Fire Authority, we wintered Annecam in the Marina di Carla del Sole in Licata Sicily. We used to spend a summer sailing on Annecam in the Mediterranean and a summer back in Australia, living this way we have not had a winter since 2011.
Photo is the HMAS Adelaide and the HMAS Canberra , amphibious assault ships along with several other Naval vessels we got the chance to see as we sailed past Woolloomooloo Bay, here in Sydney Harbour yesterday.
Challenges are what makes life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.
