Annie and Cam "H"
We are back on the pile moorings right in the heart of the City of Brisbane, this is our second time in this location.
We slipped out of Bums Bay down on the Gold Coast as the tide was rising and we proceeded up the main channel to negotiate the shoals at Jacobs Well at the top of the tide, we had a few anxious moments as our sonar showed 2.5 metres, we have a draft of 2.47 but touch wood we never grounded. The next hazard we had to negotiate was the overhead power lines that run from the mainland over to Russel Island, our charts show a clearance of 20.3 metres and we have an air draft of 21.7. We stayed close to the tower in the middle of the channel where we had heaps of room, we just had to turn hard to starboard as we passed under to avoid the shallow ground on the north side. We only cruised on for another hour and anchored for the rest of the day on the sheltered side of Karragarra Island.
The next morning, we weighed anchor and headed up along the inside of Stradbroke Island, turning across the south side of Peel Island and up into the Port of Brisbane and continuing up river to the centre of the city.
This morning we said farewell to our guest sailor, Annie’s son Dave and he headed for the train station. Dave spent almost a week onboard with us and enjoyed his time at the helm with Annecam under full sail.
We went for a stroll around the city centre and ended up in the tourist information centre which happens to be inside the old Regent Theatre, the photo is one of many that we took from the inside.
We are planning to stay here for a week before we start heading north again.
Life is not a problem to be solved but it’s a reality to be experienced.
