Happy birthday to my Admiral, this is the day five years ago we signed the contract of sale for Annecam and Annie still says that it is her best birthday present.
It has been a while since our last blog post and a lot has happened in the last week. We weighed anchor and sailed across Hervey Bay and into the Port of Bundaberg, anchoring in the Burnett River for the first night before moving into the Bundaberg Port Marina. Believe it or not we were allocated the same berth as we had when we first made landfall in Australia just over six months ago. That same night that we anchored in the river our dear friend Eve on her beautiful ketch called Auntie came in and tied up to the fuel dock, the next morning she was allocated the same berth that she had when she arrived at the same time as us. Onno on Songo d Azul was still there, Rob and Jenny on Il Silenzio were anchored just up the river from the marina. Giovanni turned up on Best Explorer and Chris and Chris came in the day before we left on Scintilla. It was almost like we were home again to be in the same slip with some of the same sailors that took part in the Down Under Go West Rally, a great time catching up was had by all.
While in the marina we caught up with the crew off the Main Event, we used to catch their dock lines as they docked each night over six months ago as they returned from their daily tour of Lady Musgrave Island and the reaction we received from Casey and her ship mates was priceless as we were there to catch their lines again. Casey took us to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery on her day off so we could do the full tour and wow! What an eye-opener it was, we had been to several rum distilleries in the Caribbean but there was nothing that compared to this one here in Bundy. Thanks Casey for a great day out.
After leaving Bundaberg we have anchored in several very remote and very beautiful locations. The positive side of where we are, is it's nice and quiet, the fishing is not too bad and it is getting warmer but the down side is the mobile phone coverage is not that great, sometimes we don't have any service at all, maybe that is why we find it nice and peaceful.
We plan to keep moving north, back up into the tropics as we are now only about 40 nautical miles below the Tropic of Capricorn.
The photo is our current view over the sparkly sea.
