Cam "H"
We are back in the tropics after crossing the Tropic of Capricorn yesterday, as we approached Hummocky Island. Today we sailed just a little bit further north to Great Keppel Island to anchor in Svendsen Bay on the north-west side of the Island. So far this seems like a very sheltered anchorage.
Every time that we set sail we log in with the local Marine Rescue or the Coast Guard, we give them our vessel name, registration number, the number of people on board, our mobile number, our planned destination plus our estimated time of arrival at our planned destination. We log off when we arrive. Yesterday we had to go to plan “B” to log off, we were out of range for our VHF radio, we did not have any reception for our mobile phone but we did have a very weak mobile wifi signal. To log off we sent a message via facebook messenger to my daughter Amanda and our friend Jeff in Horsham, Victoria. We asked them to try to call the Yeppoon Coast Guard and see if they could log us off the system. Amanda messaged us back and said that she received an engaged signal and a voice message that said they were only manned on a certain number of days. Jeff managed to get a mobile number to call, he called and managed to log us off. So, a big thank you guys for having a go for us, we called the Coast Guard this morning and all was sweet with the log off.
The photo is a Hummocky Island sunrise captured just before we set sail for Great Keppel Island.
