Video #27 Swimming on the anchor and sundowners on the beach

This youtube video is just a brief look at what we do to check our anchor, it’s a habit that we got into with our old CQR that would not set unless you dropped it into a very clean gooey mud and even then it would not stay in the same place that we dropped it into. It was a plough and plough it did, we crossed many a bay back in 2012 in Croatia, it would drag almost all of the time, it was the anchor that came with Annecam and because of it we still swim with a snorkel and mask to check that we have good set.
We now have a Mantus 65, we find that this anchor sets in almost anything we drop it into, it slices and holds in most sea grasses and that hard pack sand that the CQR would not even look at. We missed a patch of sand a couple of days ago but it still dug into and held in the limestone, we do sleep at night because of its ability to re-set inside its own length when we get a nasty 180 degree wind or tide shift. We did get caught out when we managed to catch a discarded foul weather jacket in Greece and we managed to get half a hold in the Simpson Bay Lagoon on St Maarten with a large piece of clear plastic that was most likely discarded of someone’s dodger stopped the anchor from penetrating, it took three days to figure that we had moved about half a boat length.
The rest of the video is us socialising with likeminded people on the beach in Bequia and it will give you glimpse of our cruising companions Gary and Venessa entertaining us with their easy listening music.
Life is safe with our Mantus 65 on Annecam.
