Day 20. Almost there
24 May 2016 | South Pacific Ocean
Annecam admin Pip & Tom
167 nautical miles in the last 24 hours. 3,446 completed so far with just over 55 to go. ¤After 20 days at sea we are about to make the call that every sailor loves to hear "land Ho" as any minute from now Cap Matafenua on the very East end on the. Island of Hiva Oa should reveal itself through the hazy tropical air. Yes its now only a few hours and we should be anchored in Baie Tahauku and catching up on some much needed sleep, it's been quite a few hours since my head hit the pillow. ¤The passage itself had been quite uneventful, really just a matter of putting in the time, we did however sail over 500 extra miles compared to the rum line but as we do not have down wind sails it's a result of just sailing to the conditions on each day. ¤The trade winds left us again last night so I decided to give our cast iron top sail a run for a few hours, two reasons, one to keep us moving in the general direction and the other to charge our batteries as they have been getting a bit low with all of the power required for the auto pilot. Yes Wilbur our auto pilot as Annie likes to call him, does the majority of the helming, we just set the heading and apart from the odd adjustment from us Wilbur does the rest. ¤Life is pretty good right now on Annecam.
