Monday, November 2nd, Venice to Don Pedro State Park
13 November 2015
After our rough trip yesterday, we’re doing the ICW today even with the 5 bridges en route. We were too late for the 1st bridge just outside the marina, so had to circle a bit. Luckily, no trouble with the other four. The Boca Grande swing bridge is actually 2, the old one & the new one still under construction. It opens only hourly & workers had trouble getting the new one open for us to go thru! Interesting chatter between bridge tenders & belligerent mariners…
The recommended anchorage isn’t to our liking, so Cap’n Honey zeroes in on another option at Cape Haze. It’s perfect – we’re 1st to anchor & have our choice of spots, even an Irwin 54 behind one of the houses across the way. A dinghy trip to drop off some mail – yours truly circles while Ted goes ashore. Mangroves, birds, some nice houses but hopefully not too many bugs! Over to the park & beach, where we meet & have a nice visit w/the couple on Sabrena who came in to anchor beside us. An enjoyable evening & overnight!
