Blowing Through
16 May 2010 | En Route to Anaho Bay, Nuku Hiva, Marquesas
May 16
Sleeping in meant waking up at 0615 instead of 0555. Major whoop! Charged batteries, desalinated water and found bits to fix. Really just need to clean the place, but always find something else to do: nap, visit, explore... nap.
Got itchy feet so took off before noon to anchor Hanamenu Bay on NW corner of Hiva Oa for a few hours and a nap before meeting others at Anaho Bay, Nuku Hiva (about 85 miles) tomorrow after an overnight. Bad idea. Wind, having backed into northeast, came around headland right into thusly untenable bay. So, got early start on passage in stiff breeze and two meter sea. Will shorten sail later to avoid O dark approach. Things go bump in the night, you know.
Wouldn't you think, if retired with no schedule, one could relax with all the time in the world? Doesn't happen. Things to do, places to go, people to see. It's not an airline, but time pressure still nags. Plus cyclone season starts November and may want to be in New Zealand by then. Ninety mile an hour winds look way cooler on the weather channel than from the deck of your boat.
