Up And Not Down

16 October 2015 | Pulau Parang
Saturday 17 October 2015

Today is an occasion many people experience as Saturday, the weekend, the day they stop working for awhile and do nothing productive. Most seem to like it. Had one of these myself back in 2008, took a fancy to the concept and decided to keep the ball rolling indefinitely. Of course, having no marketable skills was helpful. Now it along with Sunday are more often a bother as many businesses, what with all the employees selfishly goofing off and thus eschewing the public good, aren't available to provide their product or service for 2 days, longer on holidays. Hey people, need doesn't stop after Friday then resume Monday morning you know!

After a pleasant wing and wing sail to island 15 west of Karimunjawa found a lovely, quiet spot (there's a mosque, but it's nearly inaudible) with decent snorkeling. Invited 3 others anchored nearby for happy hour margaritas and tacos. Various forms of frivolity ensued, but the evening ended early followed straight away by sleep.

After waking at the unconscionable 0600 preparations commenced for 2 night passage to Kelayang, Belitung. No matter that we enjoyed 9 1/2 hours sleep, that's just too early and Jan, having taken vows of abstinence, was almost subjected to sunrise. Watch schedule while underway allows her to see only sunsets and balance of crew to exclusively view sunrise. Otherwise no one watches the sun come up - ever.
