Running Hot and Cold
04 April 2014 | Marina Chahue, Huatulco
Friday 4 April 2014
Well paint me green and call me an olive. Wind continued entire day yesterday, backing until we jibed onto starboard tack, yet allowing us to remain close to track. Pleased with the breeze, as air temp that shivered our timbers first night was mid 30s C (mid 90s F) during the day. In light of new circumstance, could have continued across Gulf, but that would have required additional mental activity. You see the quandary, right?
Two days before when we were slow, a pod of dolphins ignored us as we went by. Probably too boring for them. Yesterday afternoon however, when we were moving more lively, a huge pod of Pacific spotted, hundreds in every direction as far as could be seen, descended on us, jumping free of the water, splashing onto their sides and having what appeared, for all the world, to be a frolicking good time. Surmise that dolphins, like otters, find it so easy to subsist that they (and girls) just wanta have fun. Also suspect that they're smarter than us and would take over the earth, as "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" promulgates has already happened, if we don't stay on friendly terms. Good thing they like us - even stinkpotters and Americans. They're very tolerant.
Meandered unassisted into Marina Chahue around 2245 subsequent to sailing through the evening sans irritating mechanical assistance (the sailing, not the meandering - that required a soupcon of IMA). Jibed once more to round the corner into Bahia Huatulco and Bob's your uncle. Tied up to a slip, easy peasy, and, after 5 days without, got more than 3 1/2 hours sleep in a stretch. Given sultry environment, having a recently repaired A/C didn't suck, either.
Agenda for today is refueling, disciplining wayward whisker pole, encouraging deck light that didn't and offering some love to turbo-charger, which, being outside previous purview, has been unconscionably neglected.
