Sunshine, Sunshine, Wonderful Sunshine

05 November 2012 | Morehead City Yacht Basin
Sunshine
We slid our way off the dock this morning, literally, as we were in a very tight dock & needed lots of grease to get off.
Although it was still in the low 40'2 the sun was wonderful as we made our way southward, crossing Pamlico River & then the nasty stretch of water called the Neuse River which did live up to its name. Our trawler dock neighbors from last evening compared the crossing to an expensive Disney World ride. Looking behind us at one point there were 10 sailboats all heading south across the bay.
But, it was a short 10 mile crossing & before we knew it we were at Oriental, MM 181. As I seem to do on this leg of the trip, I overestimated the time it would take us to our planned destination so we called Morehead City, reserved a slip, cancelled Oriental & kept on going. The sun was shining, the water was flat... an almost perfect day on the water. A bit more ( really a lot more) heat would have made it a 10/10
The momentous events of today were another Palm tree sighting, two dolphins ( who were not the least bit interested in us) and actually being warm enough to remove our gloves & hats. Wow, heat at last !!!!!!!!!
Morehead City Yacht Basin lookled very familiar coming in & soon we were fueled, pumped out & securely tied on our dock. A very good day & a major milestone for us as we are now back in territory that we covered in 2010.
And, tomorrow being our 47th wedding anniversary we decided to celebrate tonight so the Captain treated me to a special dinner of Snow Crab in a unique little seafood place within walking distance of the marina. But, first we borrowed the courtesy car for a run to Walmart to restock the Captains turtlneck supply ( his only one was able to stand on its own when he took it off tonight :) )
Tomorrows weather is iffy, rain & high winds coming thru later in the day so at this time our plans are uncertain. We will either hole up here until the front passes or head out super early & try to scratch off another 40 miles before the weather turns nasty.
But, for now we are comfortably cosy & relaxed & tomorow will be Que Sera Sera
