16 July 2008 | 10-15 NM off Bodega Bay
Heidi, for Mark, Kent, Bob & now Katie

Mark called at 2215 tonight. They are off Bodega Bay and have winds in the 10-15 knot range. Just what NOAA predicted.

He had called at 1500 to tell me they had delayed their departure and anchored off Sausalito to bleed the autopilot. When he called they were motor-sailing along at 6-7knots under reefed main in 17-22 knot winds heading out of the bay. As they cleared the bay, the winds started to drop off.

As we talked tonight, Mark mentioned that Bob, you know which one, is on strike and only wants FLAT water. They will bleed and reset the system when they can. Hand steering for now.

They now have a 4th crew member which will make the watches a little easier. Her name is Katie and she is a friend of Kent's. Mark tells me she is a pilot for Horizon and flew in to join them in SF.

Mark tells me that they saw whales again tonight with one of them putting on a show for them, breeching 2-3 times!
