Ann from Sea Lady joined Hunter and me on a hike to Jan Thiel Lagoon. We hopped on the 07:30 bus from town and got off at the entrance to Den Dinkle Park. In the late 17th century the park was used as a holding camp for newly arrived slaves. Here the slaves could regain their health after the voyage from Africa and before being sold. In the late 19th century a wealthy family built ornamental water fountains and bridge over the creek.
We walked through the shady woods and emerged at Jan Thiel Lagoon. Flamingos we feeding in the salty that lagoon that has, in the past, been used for salt collection. We followed the lagoon towards the coast and walked back to the dingy dock and back to our boats.
Thanks to Connie for giving me directions.
