Hike up the Deshaies River

Deshaies is a small fishing village nestled between two mountains in the north end of Guadeloupe. This quaint village offers little services for cruisers, but does have a few attractions (perhaps one of the attractions is the lack of cruiser amenities). There is a very nice botanical garden and a few nice hikes. One of our favorite hikes is up the Deshaies River. The river flows out of the lush mountains, and to ascend the river you walk along the banks and often cross the river to follow the path of least resistance. Ann, Steve, Chris, Hunter and I got an early start and had a really nice walk with lunch and a swim at the end. A road joins the river after about a mile and a half allowing you to walk down a very steep paved back into town.
